What are DREAM and the Disabled & Proud Conferences?

Disabled & Proud is sponsored by Disability Rights, Education, Activism, and Mentoring (DREAM), a national student organization run by students for students.  DREAM is based at the National Center for College Students with Disabilities, which is funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education to the Association on Higher Education And Disability (AHEAD).

DREAM was founded at Syracuse University in 2011, before the NCCSD even existed.  Disabled & Proud conferences happened in 2011 and 2014 at Syracuse University, and were based on the original Disabled & Proud conference in 1990 at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities.

The 2018 conference will be online for the first time, with hopes that more students with disabilities will be able to participate.

Who Can Participate in Disabled & Proud?

Current and prospective college students and recent graduates of any age will be able to register, but this conference is not for K-12 teachers, professionals, disability services providers or parents unless they are small group leaders, sponsors, or exhibitors.  Culturally Deaf students and students with any type of disability, chronic health condition, or mental illness are welcome, and so are their nondisabled allies.  Undergraduate, graduate students, auditing students, and those in higher education transition programs are all invited to participate.
